I am honored to begin my new position as associate Professor of Voice at the Yale School of Music, working with the singers of Yale Opera! I teach vocal literature in addition to applied lessons, and the level of talent and commitment in these young artists is phenomenal.
APPOINTMENT TO YALE SCHOOL OF MUSIC FACULTY
Along with the intrepid Dr. Seth Keeton, I am honored to be a co-creator (and advisory board member) of SongHelix! Dr. Keeton is on faculty at The University of Utah and he continues to lead the herculean task of building this unprecedented comprehensive tool. Have you ever wanted to find song repertoire by poetic theme, language, time, place, composer...almost any term you can imagine- and might you want to contribute your ideas to a site that serves the global singer community in this way? SongHelix is here!
THE SONG SEARCH TOOL OF OUR DREAMS!
Steven Mark Kohn has written a moving, incisive, wistful, witty, and timely dramatic account of the trial of one the great champions and key figures in the Women's Suffrage movement in the U.S, Susan B. Anthony. E. Schirmer published the score in May of 2020, and I am privileged that Steve has made me the dedicatee. Check back soon for news of the upcoming world premiere performance!
"THE TRIAL OF SUSAN B. ANTHONY" PUBLICATION
Early in the days of the pandemic, under the auspices of Opera America, More than 100 opera singers united in a song of hope and solidarity for a virtual performance of "Light Shall Lift Us", a large ensemble work created by the Pulitzer Prize-winning team of composer Paul Moravec and librettist/lyricist Mark Campbell (with whom I've worked on 4 new operas). This effort with so many close friends and respected colleagues was healing at a time when none of us had any idea how much more healing would be necessary. I will always be honored to have been a part of it.
